4 FALL WARDROBE ESSENTIALS

Clothing can be such a powerful tool for gaining confidence and channeling different facets of your personality. Have an important presentation? A power-suit may be just what you need! Wanting to tap into your sexy side? Lace has got you covered. Requiring a mood boost? Add some colour! A new season is a perfect excuse to add some new pieces to your wardrobe that you’re missing, so today I’m sharing my personal top four wardrobe staples for the fall. When shopping for clothes these days, I now operate under the philosophy of investing in long-term pieces, so hopefully this list gives you some ideas on what may be worth putting your attention (and dollars) into.

  1. BLAZER

If I had to describe my go-to outfit, it would be dark blue-wash jeans, a lace camisole, and an oversized blazer! Blazers are such a powerful piece of clothing….I always feel so confident in them because they make me feel as if I’ve got my life together, haha! An added bonus is the fact that blazers are incredibly versatile — you can really dress them up for an event/meeting, or throw one on to quickly elevate a casual outfit. An added bonus: adding a blazer to your outfit provides another layer of protection from the cooler weather.

New to the blazer life? I’d recommend looking for something with a neutral colour/pattern, and a looser fit so it’s as comfortable to wear as a cardigan. If you’ve ever tried on a blazer and found it to be too constricting— keep looking! Blazers come in so many different styles and materials, so the right one for you is definitely out there!

2. BOOT

The classic knee-high boot is the reason I count down the days to fall every year! Much like blazers, a good boot can effortlessly add a lot of style to a look. When buying boots, the first thing I always pay attention to is comfort—even though tall heels can be fun, they’re not a shoe I’d want to wear every day (walking around the streets of Toronto in heels is guaranteed to be a recipe for a broken ankle for me).

Aside from comfort, I also like to pick shoes that can go with everything in my wardrobe; typically that means choosing neutral colours, and in a style somewhere in the middle between fancy and casual.

3. NEUTRAL HANDBAG

I’ve loved handbags since I was a little girl, and that love has continued well into my twenties. Something that has changed about my handbag love though is my appreciation for more classic pieces— nothing overly branded or trendy (can you tell a big theme for my wardrobe lately is, “going back to the basics?” haha)!

*Mat and Nat has been one of my favourite brands to buy bags. I love that their designs are minimal and durable….two key ingredients to having a bag you can use for years on end! All of the bags/cross-bodies/backpacks I’ve added to my collection over the years still look brand new, so this fall *I decided to upgrade my work bag (i.e. one that has a dedicated laptop compartment and enough room to bring notebooks/chargers/etc with me on the go).

4. THE Coat

Living in Canada means living in a parka from November-March, so for the few months in the fall when I can have a lighter coat, I like to make sure it’s a piece that makes me feel really confident and put-together. For me, that means wearing a long coat that gives me some nice shape.

Again, this is a piece that will (hopefully) be in your closet for years to come, so investing time into finding something timeless will serve you well; plus, coats can always be given a new life by adding a fun scarf and/or hat!

I think what putting this list together has taught me is that I am very much a fan of outerwear! Having these four fall staples in my wardrobe makes putting together outfits I feel good in easier than ever.
