Unconventional Self Care Tips You MUST TRY
Self-care can come in many different forms, but sometimes our “go-to” methods of relaxing just aren’t cutting it anymore. It’s time to spice up our self-care life! Today, I’m helping you out by sharing some of my favourite unconventional forms of taking care of myself ❤️
1) Declutter Your Intimates
We all have those pair of panties/bras/socks that — if we’re being honest with ourselves — have seen better days. 😅 Take 30 minutes to go through your intimates drawer and say goodbye to the items that no longer serve a purpose in your wardrobe. This is a great way to also get a better idea of the gaps that may or may not exist in your intimates collection so you know what to keep your eye on the lookout for next time you’re shopping…..or what you don’t need at all!
As someone who hates the hassle of doing laundry in an apartment complex, I’ve been steadily growing my underwear collection over the years so I can stretch out the length between my laundry days (I am the worst lol)! But it hit me recently that my collection had grown out of hand, and that a decent amount of the underwear I was holding onto either was past its prime and/or didn’t fit properly anymore. So after picking up some new pairs, I decided to finally scale back. ….it felt so good to declutter AND have my collection be of intimates I feel confident in! I love getting underwear from Aerie! Aerie often has great deals (I always wait for the 10 for $39 dollar promo 👀), and their high-cut ribbed cotton thongs are so comfy! I need to do this next with my bra collection!
2) Candlelight Yoga
Candlelight and yoga might seem like self-care staples but slap them together and you get a truly magical experience — add in some relaxing tunes, and it hits on a whole new level. 👀 I don’t make it a secret that I am a lover of yoga! I think it’s such a great way to combine movement with breathwork. If I have plans to do yoga on a particular day, I usually will do it when there’s daylight out but using it as a practise to help you wind down at night feels so yummy.
To prevent any fire hazards that could come along with combining real flames and a downward dog that goes wrong, I love using battery operated candles. *I got these ones from Amazon and they’re great— I put them on a timer each night
3) Colour Customize Your Digital Calendar
As someone who uses a bullet journal, I can confidently say that when you get joy from your planner, you’re more likely to use it! Digital planning tools are awesome for their convenience but can sometimes feel lacklustre to use. One of my favourite ways to spice up my digital calendar (I currently use Google Calendar for my scheduling needs) is to customize the colours of my events. I love using the site coolors to create a colour palette that clicks. You can choose a palette with different shades of the same colour or pick a handful of colours that complement one another— just find a palette that gets your heart eyes going. You’ll be surprised by what a simple change in HEX codes can do for calendar(s).

4) New Hair Style? Yes, please 🙋♀️
On the daily, you’ll find me sporting my hair down and curled. It’s a hairstyle that I love doing because it’s low maintenance, can be done within 10 minutes, and makes me feel great! It’s seldom that I switch things up, but changing your hairstyle (even for a day) can give you a little boost of energy. Variety is such a powerful tool for adding spice to life, even in simple forms like this!
So throw your hair in a pony, whip out your straightening iron, have fun with hair accessories, watch a tutorial on YouTube, etc., etc…. the options for hairstyles are endless. If nothing else, it’s fun to try something new!
5) Nothing Classier Than a Wine Glass
You’re sitting here reading this blog post thinking to yourself, “wow, I’m parched.” Well, my friend, what if instead of pouring some water into an insulated bottle, you instead poured it into a wine glass?! Pretty intriguing, eh?
I’m unsure why I’ve been having so much fun with this, but lately I’ve been pouring my water, kombucha, pop (i.e., all non-wine beverages) into wine glasses and it’s made simple hydration sessions feel so much fancier. There are no studies confirming this, so you’ll just have to take my word for it and give it a whirl for yourself. Wine not, right?! 😉
Tell me one of your favourite forms of self-care in the comments below! It can be difficult to stay on top of our self-care needs when life gets busy, but it’s so important to be regularly checking in with yourself — you owe it to yourself to be an advocate for your own needs! I’ll be back soon with a new post! Xo.—C.
